The recovery of recyclable materials from the university campus is collected in five routes. Service routes are comprised of interior and exterior building sites. Additionally, special projects are scheduled specifically and are not on the scheduled routes. Once collected, materials are transported back to the University Recycling Center for processing.
Confidential Materials Shredding
Recoverable Resources can also collect and destroy confidential materials. This may include materials with social security numbers, personnel or payroll records, etc. To arrange for shredding, confidential materials collection or to request a bin for confidential materials, call our office at (757) 683-3005 or e-mail email@example.com. Confidential office paper is recycled so please remove any contaminants that may be mixed in with the materials. Recoverable Resources can also collect Electronic waste, e-waste, e-scrap, or Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) describes loosely discarded, surplus, obsolete, or broken electrical or electronic devices. Electronic waste" may be defined as all secondary computers, entertainment device electronics, mobile phones, and other items such as television sets and refrigerators, whether sold, donated, or discarded by their original owners. Recoverable Resources also schedules several types of collections that are not on our normal route. Recycling bins can be placed to accommodate any special event that may be taking place on campus. These may range in size from Student Move In / Student Move Out, University Football games, events at Ted Convacation Center to much smaller events. In the winter when new phonebooks are distributed, recycling bins for the old phonebooks are placed at various locations around campus. Generally, recycling bins can be found where new phonebooks are being distributed. For questions regarding the location of the nearest bin for your department contact us. If you only have a few books for recycling, they can be dropped into a recycle bin.
Bins for Office Cleanouts
Recycling bins are available on request for office / departmental cleanouts / moves. Simply call (757) 683-3005 to request one. Remember these services are for recycling and should only be used for recyclable collections. Trash should be placed in the appropriate containers.
University Recycling Center
All materials collected are processed and the recyclables are separated, sorted and eventually shipped out locally to vendors. Reusable materials are also stored in the university recycling center for benefit of use by the campus community.
