Visitor Parking

Parking at ODU, like most successful universities, is scarce near the academic core of campus (between Hampton Boulevard and Powhatan Avenue).  Therefore all of the parking facilities at ODU are controlled and funded by the sales of parking permits and by parking citation (ticket) fines.

In order to avoid receiving a parking citation for "no permit" at $75 per occurrence, ALL VISITORS that want to park on campus must either display a valid parking pass, park in the visitor parking lot, or park at a parking meter.

Current ODU students, faculty and staff members ARE NOT visitors.  Vehicles registered to immediate family members of students ARE NOT considered Visitors either, unless an appropriate visitor's pass is displayed on their vehicle.

Short Term (less than 7 hours) Visitor Parking

For visitors that are only going to be on campus for less than seven hours should use the Visitor Lot located on the corner of 49th Street and Hampton Blvd. The first hour is free of charge with each additional hour costing $1.00 per hour.  Parking by the hour for $1 per hour is provided by parking meter spaces and parking metered lots with pay stations (just remember your parking space number located on the pavement at the entrance to the parking stall).

Long Term (more than 7 hours) Visitor Parking

Visitors who are going to be on campus for more than seven hours or for more than several days or weeks should obtain a visitor pass at the ODU Parking Office. A visitor may obtain a pass from the parking office or the visitor booth located in the Visitor Lot during normal business hours for $7 per day.  Please note that visitor passes are not valid in Student Resident/Quad/Village Lots or in metered parking lots or spaces.

Bringing Visitors and Guests to Campus

Guest Visitors of the University will be provided with complimentary parking during their visit. The Guest Visitor's host is responsible for purchasing and then providing a valid parking pass to their guests.

  • Requests for guest visitor passes must be submitted in writing to Parking and Transportation Services at least 48 hours prior to guest visit.  Email requests to specialpass@odu.edu.
  • Requests to reserve specific parking areas for 10 or more guests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Written requests must be submitted to Parking and Transportation Services at least 48 hours prior to the event. Please fill out the online form available here. There will be charges for additional services (cones, attendants, signs, etc.).
  • Child Study Center clients may obtain a visitor pass at the center.

Visitors Who Receive a Citation

The Director of Parking and Transportation Services may, upon request or appeal of a citation, reduce a citation fine to a warning for visitors that did not displaying a permit or parked in an unauthorized zone.  Only one citation reduction to a warning will be given per license plate and/or visitor.
