Avi Santo is the co-creator of Flow: A Critical Forum on Television and Media Culture and of MediaCommons: A Scholarly Digital Network. He is the author of several articles on topics ranging from the cultural economy of HBO to Russian immigrant filmmaking practices in Israel and has been published in such journals as Framework: The Journal of Cinema and Media, The International Journal of Cultural Studies, and The Canadian Journal of Film Studies. His dissertation explored the historical development of trans-media licensing and branding practices in the US, 1933-1966 through a detailed case study of George Trendle, creator and licensor of the Lone Ranger and Green Hornet brands.
His research interests include international communication and global television studies, Inuit television, Israeli media, race and the media, media and social justice, American broadcast history, comic books, superheroes, and intellectual property and licensing practices.
