Alumni Elected As BOV Officers; Two More Grads Join Board

The Old Dominion Board of Visitors on June 17 elected two university alumni as officers for 2010-11: Pamela C. Kirk ’88 as vice rector and Kenneth E. Ampy ’90 as secretary. They joined the board in 2005.

David L. Bernd, chief executive officer of Sentara Healthcare, was elected as rector.
A marketing consultant, Kirk currently works with companies that require guidance and direction for new and existing marketing programs.

Ampy is the founder and CEO of Astyra Corp. Headquartered in Richmond, Astyra is a national provider of information technology staffing and consulting services.

On July 23, Gov. Bob McDonnell appointed four new members to the board, including two ODU alumni: Jeffrey W. Ainslie ’83, of Virginia Beach, president of the Ainslie Group and past president of the ODU Alumni Association; and Luke M. Hillier ’94, of Virginia Beach, CEO/chairman of ADS Inc.

The other new appointees are Dee D. Gilmore, of Chesapeake, chief of staff for U.S. Rep. J. Randy Forbes; and Fred J. Whyte, of Virginia Beach, president of Stihl Inc. Marc Jacobson, of Norfolk, a retired Norfolk Circuit Court judge, was reappointed to the board.
