The chapter officially kicked off the fall season with a happy hour at the Capital Ale House in downtown Richmond. Area alumni had a great time reconnecting and there was a lot of buzz about the exciting second season of football. Chapter leaders are currently planning their official chartering ceremony, set for Nov. 16. Be on the lookout for your invitation, and don’t forget to visit our Facebook page.
The chapter has been hard at work spreading the Monarch spirit throughout our nation’s capital, which included hosting a happy hour in October. In November, members will gather to cheer on the Monarch football team from afar-when ODU takes on VMI-at the First Down Sports Bar and Grill in Arlington. The end of the year will begin a new era of Monarch spirit in our chapter. All area alumni are invited to join us for our chapter re-chartering ceremony on Dec. 4.
Black Alumni Chapter
The Black Alumni Chapter enjoyed an exciting summer of reconnecting black alumni throughout the nation. Recent events included a networking social at the National Harbor, a fundraiser in Alexandria, Va., participation in the annual House Calls (to welcome freshmen to campus) and participation in the annual Block Party (formerly known as the House Party). Black alumni from all over gathered at Baxter’s Sports Lounge in Norfolk during Homecoming Weekend to reminisce about their student days. The chapter looks forward to supporting the ODU Black Male Summit as well as welcoming new graduates to the group at the biannual welcome reception in December. All alumni are invited; for details, go to www.odualumni.org.
Attention alumni in Charlotte, Raleigh and on the Peninsula: Leadership groups have formed to begin the process of starting formal chapters in these areas, and they need your involvement! For more information about these groups, contact the Office of Alumni Relations at email@example.com.
