Tips for Staying Healthy On Campus
Student Health Services (SHS) is your student's partner in health and wellness at ODU. The office not only restores health when your student is ill, but they also serve as a resource in helping students make the best decisions concerning their health. They know that a healthy lifestyle benefits students now and in their future.
SHS offers services to students that are similar to out-patient settings. The staff can administer primary care services for acute illness and urgent care for injuries. They do not offer ER services. SHS also offers health education seminars and private consultations. Topics include weight management, nutrition and fitness counseling.
The office is open 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday, office hours are 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. When SHS is closed, assistance is available through the Police at 757.683.4000. Public Safety will contact the clinical staff person on call who will respond to the problem or question. In a life-threatening emergency, instruct your student to call Public Safety who will contact 911 emergency services.
The Office of Counseling Services offers individual, couple and group counseling for students. Students who take advantage of counseling services find significant benefits for increased self-awareness. The office also conducts an academic program series.
The Old Dominion University Police Department is a state-certified, accredited law enforcement agency. They provide professional police services and emergency response to students, faculty and visitors of ODU. The Police Department is located in the Public Safety Building at 4516 Monarch Way. They are available 24/7/365 at 757.683.4003 or in an emergency at 757.683.4000. The department publishes campus crime statistics and offers many services including a student escort service.
