Call For ODU 2010-2011
Undergraduate Research Journal Papers
Deadline for submission of reports and articles: October 7th, 2011
Students who conducted faculty mentored research, scholarship, or creative projects in the 2010-2011 academic year are invited to submit research reports or articles to the second issue of Old Dominion University's online Undergraduate Research Journal.
Review Process:
The ODU Undergraduate Research Committee, members of the journal's student consultant committee, and outside reviewers will select reports and essays for publication and awards. Publication of work to the ODU Undergraduate Research Journal will require responding to editorial, editing, and revision suggestions by deadlines set in accordance with the journal's schedule of production
Format and Guidelines for submissions
Please select one of the following submissions formats:
1) Submit the text of your report as a .doc or .rtf file. Do not include graphs, tables, or other visual elements in this document. In the .doc or .rtf file, identify the location of each visual element (e.g., "Insert Table 1"). The name for the visual element must match the name include in the .tiff file that includes the visual element. If you use graphs, tables, or other visual illustrations in your report, please submit them in a separate .tiff file. Each graph, table, illustration must be clearly labeled (e.g., Table 1, Graph 3).
2) Submit the manuscript as a plain text file written in LaTex and submit figures in ps or eps format.

Guidelines for Reports
Length: 750 to 1,500 words
Cover Page: title, the author's name, a short biographical sketch, 50-100 word abstract, and full contact details
Writing Style: clear, concise, engaging and informal, written for a general audience of undergraduate researchers
Citation Format: Please use the citation format appropriate for your discipline. Your faculty research mentor can assist you in determining which citation format is appropriate.
Submission Formats
Please select one of the following submissions formats:

Organizational Format:
1) Statement of Problem/Question: Identify the major problem/question that your research addresses.
2) Literature Review: Provide a short review of research conducted by others that has informed your approach to the problem/question.
3) Research Design: Describe how you have chosen to approach your problem or question. Focus on the strengths and weaknesses of your approach to the problem or question rather than a description of your specific research protocols.
4) Presentation and Explanation of Results: Present the results of your research focusing on the implications and significance of this work for future research related to your problem/question. Tables and other visual representations of data are encouraged.
5) Suggested Reading: Provide a descriptive reading list for students who are interested in learning more about the question/problem addressed in your research.
