Executive Officer - Commander Mones
Commander Mones was born in San Francisco, CA and raised in the Hampton Roads area. He is a 1990 NROTC Hampton Roads graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He also earned a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
He enlisted in the Navy under the Delayed Entry Program and completed Boot Camp and Radioman "A" school in San Diego, CA in 1985. He reported to his first command as the Communications Officer and then became the Auxiliary and Electrical Officer aboard USS LA MOURE COUNTY (LST-1194) in Little Creek, VA. Afterwards, he became a plank owner aboard USS BOXER (LHD-4) in San Diego, CA and was the Main Propulsion (AFT) Officer. Other duties and commands include assignments as Training Officer at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic (EWTGLANT) in Little Creek, VA, Chief Engineer aboard USS SENTRY (MCM-3) in Ingleside, TX, N4/Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Officer for Commander, Amphibious Squadron (COMPHIBRON) Four aboard USS WASP (LHD-1) in Norfolk, VA, Damage Control Assistant (DCA) aboard USS SAIPAN (LHA-2) in Norfolk, VA and C5I Officer aboard USS BATAAN (LHD-5) in Norfolk, VA.
His last assignment was Executive Officer at the Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit (CSCSU) Dam Neck in Virginia Beach, VA. While there, he completed a one-year Individual Augmentee (IA) tour in Camp As Sayliyah, Qatar as J1 for Joint Information Support Task Force (Special Operations) in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and New Dawn.
He is married to Shannon of Baltimore, MD, and they have two daughters and two sons.
