Old Dominion University's Department of Human Resources provides employees relations staff to counsel employees and managers on human resource concerns.

Department of Employment Dispute Resolution

This Richmond office can help you with any work-related problems or grievances. Counselors can give you information on state policies, practices, and rules, and all help is confidential. The department administers the formal grievance procedure for all state employees and facilitates a mediation program for interested employees.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) 

The EAP provides a counseling and referral service to employees and their families who are enrolled in Commonwealth of Virginia health care (COVA Connect, COVA Care or COVA HDHP).  The EAP can provide confidential assistance when you are experiencing personal, family, marital, or substance abuse problems that are affecting your or your job performance.

You can receive up to four visits free.  You may refer yourself directly to EAP or your supervisor may refer you if your job performance is a factor.  Participation in the EAP does not jeopardize your job security.

Identification Cards (I.D.)

As a University employee, you are entitled to an I.D. which you should carry with you while on campus. With an I.D. card, you can do the following:

  • Buy a faculty/staff parking decal
  • Borrow from the University Library
  • Use some University athletic facilities during special hours
  • Get a discount at the bookstore in Webb Center
  • Get a discount for all performances of the Old Dominion Players
  • Receive free official and unofficial transcripts of any courses you take at Old Dominion
  • Get a discount on University athletic events

You may request additional I.D. cards for one adult family member or individual residing in your household, and your unmarried, dependent children under 19 or full-time students under 23. When you separate from University employment, you must turn in your I.D. card to the Department of Human Resources.

Hourly and Classified Employees Association (HACE)

Any classified or wage employee may join HACE. The association represents you on campus. In general, HACE's goal is to improve employment at Old Dominion University and help with communication between employees and University officials.
