If a court orders you to assume sole, permanent custody of a child you may add that child to your health insurance within 60-days of the award. The child’s principal place of residence must be with the employee and the child must be a member of the employee’s household.
The only exception to sole custody is if you or your spouse share custody with the minor child who is the parent of the child, then the child may be added to your health insurance within 60-days of the court ordered shared custody. The child, parent of the child and the spouse who has shared custody must be living in the same household as the employee.
