 Waiting Period

Seven calendar days of medical absence from work, including maternity, that must be met before short term disability benefits can begin. An employee who returns to work for less than 20 hours during the seven calendar day waiting period will have satisfied the waiting period. If the absence is due to a major chronic condition or catastrophic illness diagnosed at the onset of the disability, no waiting period is required.

If you become ill or injured and you expect to be unable to work for more than 7 calendar days, call: 1-800-652-5602. After the waiting period, short-term disability coverage of 100%, 80% or 60% of income is provided for up to 125 workdays. During short term disability employees are paid at the appropriate income replacement level for holidays and office closings.
