It really is a thing of beauty, a hulking steel device with state-of-the-art switches, dials and probes. Researchers at Old Dominion have just started working with the Four-Probe Multiview 4000 Scanning Probe Microscope (SPM), an incredibly powerful, multifunctional instrument that can view and manipulate samples at the nanoscale. Students bundle up for a chilly "Sleep Out for the Homeless" on Kaufman Mall the night of Nov. 18. The event, designed to draw attention to the plight of the area’s homeless population, was sponsored by the ODU Center for Service and Civic Engagement and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
