Biology's Mark Butler Wins SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award
Mark Butler, a marine biologist at ODU whose research promotes the stocks of blue crabs along the mid-Atlantic coast and of spiny lobsters in the Caribbean, is a 2011 recipient of the Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award sponsored by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. (Full Story)
Noted Professor Emeritus, Jefferson Scholar Alf Mapp Jr. Dies
Author, historian and journalist Alf J. Mapp Jr., eminent scholar emeritus and Louis I. Jaffe Professor Emeritus of English, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, in a Suffolk nursing facility. A lifetime resident of Portsmouth, he was 85. (Full Story)
ODU Announces Winners of Summer Research Grant Awards
The Office of Research has awarded 2011 summer research grants totaling $6,000 each to 11 projects by ODU faculty members. The grants were awarded in two categories: Summer Experience Enhancing Collaborative Research (SEECR) and Summer Research Fellowship Program (SRFP). (Full Story)

Three ODU Oceanographers to Rush Season for Arctic Research
Most scientific research in the Arctic Ocean region is done during the summer when the weather can be almost hospitable and there is more open water in which to take measurements and conduct experiments. But three young oceanographers from ODU will be rushing the season in the frozen north this year with projects beginning in March and April. (Full Story)
