Wendy Larry Steps Down as Lady Monarch Basketball Coach

Athletic director Wood Selig announced Tuesday that Wendy Larry has stepped down as head women's basketball coach. She will remain at ODU, with responsibilities for assisting the Office of University Advancement with athletic-related fundraising projects and alumni events. (Full Story)

Mary Boswell, Saranette Miles-Williams Win HACE Staff Member Awards

The Hourly and Classified Employees Association honored Mary Boswell and Saranette Miles-Williams as the 2011 recipients of its Staff Member and Rookie Staff Member of the Year awards, respectively, at the organization's annual luncheon on May 11. (Full Story)

Jim Duffy Named Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs

Jim Duffy, associate university budget officer, has been appointed to the position of associate vice president for academic affairs, Provost Carol Simpson announced recently. He will succeed Bill McMahon, who is retiring next month after 40 years at ODU. (Full Story)

'Beyond the Veil' Exhibition Features Hand-Sewn Artistry

"Beyond the Veil," featuring new work by ODU alumna Domenica Arcuri Webb, opens with a reception from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries. The exhibition continues through July 3. (Full Story)

ODU/HU Team's Solar Decathlon House Arrives on Campus

Now it's real. For two years, members of the joint ODU/HU Solar Decathlon team have been working on designing a solar-powered house from the ground up for a competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. On Wednesday, the house that Team Tidewater designed arrived in four giant pieces on the ODU campus. (Full Story)

European Union Ambassador Joćo Vale de Almeida, center, talks with President John Broderick and Regina Karp, director of the graduate program in international studies, at Old Dominion's "Europe and America – Learning from Each Other" conference on May 12. The two-day event was sponsored by ODU's Access EU, an initiative to build alliances and partnerships between Hampton Roads and Europe, and the World Affairs Council of Hampton Roads.
