Shuiwang Ji, an assistant professor of computer science, leads a team of researchers that have won grants totaling almost $600,000 from the NSF to explore a new, comprehensive way to map the intricate workings of the mammalian brain. A delegation from the U.S. Coast Guard visited ODU's Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center on Feb. 24. Pictured (from left) are: ODU Vice President for Research Mohammad Karim, Rear Adm. Kevin Cook, retired Rear Adm. Wayne Justice, VMASC executive director John Sokolowski and Roland Mielke, professor and chair of ODU's Department of Modeling, Simulation and Visualization Engineering. After a presentation by Sokolowski, focusing on VMASC's work in the fields of transportation and homeland security, the delegation viewed demonstrations of ODU's research and education efforts in modeling, simulation and visualization engineering.
