ODU Junior, 17, Awarded Prestigious Internship with NASA Space Academy He started as a freshman at ODU at 13 years of age. Now a dean’s list student in modeling, simulation and visualization engineering with a 3.90 GPA, Spencer Lane has been accepted for a prestigious internship this summer with the NASA Space Academy at Glenn Research Center. 1st Lt. Vincent Gioielli, U.S. Army, was presented both Purple Heart and Army Commendation awards by Brig. Gen. Ed Burley Thursday afternoon during the U.S. Army ROTC Battalion 37th Annual President’s Review and Awards Ceremony. Gioielli was commissioned as a signal officer in 2009 after attending ODU from 2005-09. He served with the 352nd Civil Affairs Command as a civil affairs officer starting in June 2010, until being activated to deploy with the 489th Civil Affairs Battalion to Afghanistan from April 2011 to March 2012. He was wounded by an improvised explosive device (IED) while leading a patrol. Gioielli is currently assigned to Fort Eustis for treatment.
