Veterans Honored
Former President Al Rollins, President Roseann Runte and Rear Adm. David Architzel, USN, pay silent tribute to those who lost their lives in defense of America during the Veterans Day observance Nov. 12 in Webb Center. Rollins, who spoke briefly for the program, served in the Air Force during World War II and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. He said the best way to honor veterans would be to undertake “a relentless drive for peace in the world.” At left, AROTC cadets Jennifer Jonston (top) and Alicia Vincent get a close look at a section of the Memorial Flag, which was on display. It includes the names of 3,777 victims of terrorism.

New format in store for December commencement
December commencement will have a new look, as well as a new location – the Ted Constant Convocation Center – this year.

A major change in format will be the absence of individual college ceremonies, but the Dec. 15 graduation will not lack for pomp and circumstance. During the commencement program, as their names are called, participating graduates will walk across the stage, shake hands with President Roseann Runte and their respective dean, and receive their alumni certificate and key chain. Bond referendum approval sets stage for renovation and construction
The results of the Nov. 5 higher education bond referendum – an endorsement of the demonstrated need for renovation and new construction by 73 percent of Virginia voters who cast their ballots – was certainly well received on the campuses of the commonwealth’s public colleges and universities.

For Old Dominion, it means more than $44 million to renovate four buildings and to construct two new facilities for teaching and research....Full story
