International Health Symposium set for Oct. 25

Dr. Ramon Lopez, director of the ministry of health and social assistance in the Dominican Republic, will discuss "Health Reform in the Dominican Republic" as part of a symposium on international health Friday, Oct. 25.

ODU's Laurel Garzon, associate professor of nursing, and Gail Grisetti, associate professor of physical therapy, will follow up with a discussion of the university's partnerships in the Dominican Republic.

Also during the symposium, Dr. Karen Remley, executive director of Physicians for Peace, will give a talk on the impact of volunteers on world health. Robert Jacobs, director of the EVMS/Old Dominion master's of public health program, will discuss public health challenges in developing countries.

The symposium, which takes place from 1-4 p.m. in room 102 of the Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building, is sponsored by the College of Health Sciences and is free and open to the public. More information is available at www.odu.edu/healthsciences or by calling 683-4960.
