After arriving in Hampton Roads Sept. 24 (above), R/V Fay Slover, the Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences' new research vessel, was christened Tuesday afternoon at the Nauticus Pier. At left, Frank Batten IV, son of Board of Visitors Rector Frank Batten Jr., christens the Slover with some assistance from OEAS chair Thomas Royer. The vessel is named for the original benefactor of the oceanography program, who was a great aunt of Batten.
