A cold welcome
Students who returned to campus this week after the holiday break were greeted by near-freezing temperatures, as were Leslie Hellerman ’94 and her daughter, Chloe, 2, who stopped by the icicle-draped Monarch fountain during their Monday morning walk.

Tom Isenhour steps into role of university provost
Thomas L. Isenhour, until recently Old Dominion’s dean of the College of Sciences, stepped into the role of university provost and vice president for academic affairs Jan. 2 following his appointment to the position last month. The Board of Visitors approved the change on Dec. 13. Full story

SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award goes to English dept.’s Sheri Reynolds
For the second year in a row, a novelist from Old Dominion’s English department has been selected to receive a prestigious SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award.

Sheri Reynolds, associate professor of English, is among 10 statewide winners who were honored yesterday in Richmond. Old Dominion’s winner last year was Janet Peery. Full story

Chandra de Silva is choice for dean of Arts & Letters
Chandra R. de Silva, chair of the Old Dominion history department, has been named dean of the College of Arts, Provost Thomas L. Isenhour announced last week. Full story
