Music on the mall
The sounds of music returned to Kaufman Mall June 2 and 9 with evening performances by the Virginia Symphony. The popular outdoor concerts resumed this month after a two-year hiatus. Approximately 400 people attended the first concert. At left, violinist Pavel Ilyashov performs Sarasante’s “Carmen Fantasy” under the direction of Shizuo Kuwahara.

Baysal appointed engineering dean, O’Herron named univ. librarian
Old Dominion recently announced the appointments of Oktay Baysal as dean of the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology and Virginia O’Herron as university librarian. The appointments are contingent on Board of Visitors approval.

Fueling an understanding of global environmental issues is the focus of a new course required of all freshmen beginning next spring.
