Conservatory opens
Steve Urick, above left, conservator at the Arthur and Phyllis Kaplan Orchid Conser-vatory, leads a tour of the facility following a ribbon cutting April 3. It houses the collection of retired Norfolk physician Arthur Kaplan, a longtime grower of exquisite orchids, pictured at left receiving a plaque from President Runte. With more than 1,000 plants, it is the largest orchid collection in the area. The facility consists of six greenhouses; additional space will be used for propagating orchids and preparing them for display, as well as for botanical research.

Old Dominion graduates will receive words of wisdom from two nationally known figures, along with their diplomas, at spring commencement exercises Saturday, May 10, at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
