Financial Documentation Requirements

If you are required to show financial documentation for your visa document request, the documentation must meet certain USCIS guidelines.  Failure to abide by these guidelines will prevent us from processing your request.

Requirements for ALL Financial Documentation:

original (except when an offer letter for an ODU/RF assistantship (scans and copies allowed)

issued within the last six months

foreign government sponsors who provide letters of conditional sponsorship based on admission of the student

Acceptable Financial Documentation for I-20/DS-2019 Issuance

  • financial guarantee from a government sponsor (U.S. or home country) AND/OR foreign government sponsors who provide letters of conditional sponsorship based on university admission
  • your personal bank account documentation (i.e. transaction history) issued and stamped by bank
  • your sponsor's bank account documentation (i.e. transaction history) issued and stamped by bank accompanied by a letter of willingness signed by the account holder
  • original (except when an offer letter for an ODU/RF assistantship (scans and copies allowed in that case))

  • issued within the last six months

UNacceptable Financial Documentation for I-20/DS-2019 Issuance

  • letters verifying an adjunct position

  • documents issues more than six months ago

  • investment portfolios/retirement accounts

Sponsorship Letter Requirements

The following is an example of an acceptable letter of sponsorship:

I, SPONSOR'S NAME, hereby verify that I am willing to sponsor STUDENT'S NAME for the remainder of HIS/HER academic program for whatever expenses need to be covered such as tuition, housing, insurance and other miscellaneous items.  Please see my attached original documentation from BANK NAME.
