Vice Adm. Architzel Speaks at Commissioning

Vice Adm. David Architzel, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Navy (Research, Development and Acquisition), delivered the address at the Joint ROTC Commissioning Ceremony held May 6 at ODU's Ted Constant Convocation Center.

Twelve Army ROTC cadets were commissioned as officers, and 34 Old Dominion University Naval ROTC candidates were commissioned, along with four from Hampton University.

Architzel, a New Yorker, served naval tours all over the board, on ships such as USS Independence and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was commanding officer of the USS Guam, flagship for Amphibious Squadron 2.

Ashore, Architzel was selected for the Navy's Test Pilot School, and has has accumulated more than 5,000 flight hours, 4,300 in the S-3 and the remainder in some 30 other aircraft types.

His decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, four Legions of Merit, three Meritorious Service Medals, the Navy Achievement Medal and various service-related awards and campaign ribbons.
