In Appreciation of Conservation Gift

In Appreciation of Conservation Gift

Philanthropist Tom Haas receives a ship's bell in a custom-built housing in appreciation of his gift five years ago that allowed the creation of the Global Marine Species Assessment (GMSA) headquartered at Old Dominion University. The presentation to Haas (second from right) was by Kent Carpenter (right), professor of biological sciences and director of GMSA, and Roger McManus, vice president for marine programs at Conservation International, which helped to establish the GMSA. ODU College of Sciences Dean Chris Platsoucas (far left) also took part in the program honoring Haas on the ODU campus Nov. 1. Haas is part of the Philadelphia family that founded Rohm and Haas, the company best known for introducing Plexiglas in 1933.
