WHITE SOX CALL UP DAN HUDSON TO THE MAJORS
Former Old Dominion University pitching standout Dan Hudson '08 (Virginia Beach) was called up by the Chicago White Sox Tuesday night after pitching against the Norfolk Tides. He will join the team in Minnesota today.
Hudson will become the 11th Monarch to play in the Major Leagues. He joins current two-time American League All-Star Justin Verlander (Detroit) in the same division.
"I am so excited," said Hudson. "I had no idea this was going to happen. The coaches didn't tell me until after I came out of the game last night. Pitching in Harbor Park has always been a dream of mine, because as a kid growing up here in Hampton Roads, you go to so many games, and you hope to get the opportunity to pitch in front of your family and friends."
Hudson started the season in A-League Kannapolis, and then was promoted to AA Birmingham on June 28 where he tossed an 8-1 victory over Huntsville, striking out eight. On Aug. 10, he was promoted to AAA Charlotte after compiling a 7-0 record with a 1.60 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 56.1 innings of work.
Hudson was 2-0 with a 3.43 ERA in four starts at Charlotte, including a 3-1 win over the Norfolk Tides on Aug. 14. The two-time All-CAA pitcher made his Harbor Park debut last night against the Tides, pitching three innings of shutout ball with five strikeouts, one walk and one hit before coming out of the game. That is when he was told he was moving up to Chicago.
