The Changing Role of Academic Advisors is Topic at Oct. 28 Forum
Old Dominion's University College will host a forum titled "Advising as Teaching" from 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in room 1202 of the E.V. Williams Engineering and Computational Sciences Building. Leading members of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) will spearhead the discussion regarding the changing role of academic advisors.
In addition to the "Advising as Teaching" forum, the event will feature the launch of ODU's Master Advisor Certificate training and awards program, followed by a reception from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Speakers from NACADA include:
Jayne Drake - 2009-10 president of NACADA and an associate professor of English, vice dean for academic affairs and director of the master of liberal arts program at Temple University, Philadelphia.
Nancy S. King - Past president of NACADA and the executive assistant for strategic initiatives at Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Ga.
Charlie Nutt - Executive director of NACADA and associate director and assistant professor in the education college at Kansas State University, Manhattan.
