Virginia House No. 80 Candidates To Debate at ODU
The candidates for Virginia's 80th District of the House of Delegates will hold a debate on the Old Dominion University campus Wednesday, Oct. 28.
The candidates, Republican Jennifer Lee and Democrat Matthew James, will debate from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building auditorium.
The event, which is being hosted by ODU students, is open to the campus community and the public. It begins with a reception with the candidates at 6 p.m.
After each candidate makes a five-minute speech, introducing themselves and outlining highlights of their platforms, a series of questions will be asked from the audience. The candidates will have three minutes to answer each of the questions. The first two questions will be asked by the ODU Young Democrats and the College Republicans.
At the end of the debate, each candidate will be given five minutes to make closing remarks.
The intent of the forum is not to attack or confront the opposing candidate, but rather to focus on each candidate's ideas, strategies, goals and solutions. Both James and Lee agreed in advance on the premise for the debate.
Free parking is available in Garage B, on the corner of 43rd Street and Elkhorn Avenue.
