Janelle Engle, a native of Mount Joy, Pa., and Eric Blomberg of Virginia Beach have been selected to represent Old Dominion University in USA Today's 2005-06 All-USA College Academic Team competition. Winners will be announced in the newspaper in February.

USA Today honors outstanding students annually by naming its All-USA College Academic Team. The 10 students selected to the All-USA First Team will be pictured in the newspaper and receive a $2,500 cash award. Forty runners-up will be named to the Second and Third teams; they will receive certificates of achievement and have their names in the newspaper.

Engle plans to graduate with a degree in music education in December 2006. She has received numerous academic awards and is captain of the field hockey team, concertmaster of the ODU Symphony and first violinist in the Diehn String Quartet.

Blomberg, a mechanical engineering technology and economics major, plans to graduate in December 2005. A former Navy nuclear trained petty officer, Blomberg entered the Navy ROTC program under the "Seaman-to-Admiral" program and served as battalion commander. He has been awarded the Navy Achievement Medal with one gold star, the Good Conduct Medal with two bronze stars and various unit and service awards.

ODU has had three USA Today All-USA College Academic Team scholars since 1999.
