ODU's Batten College of Engineering and Technology Wins Donation of Technology Equipment from Siemens
Old Dominion University is one of seven schools that have been awarded a donation of technology training equipment from U.S. technology solutions company Siemens Industry Inc.
Valued at $33,000, the donation includes training consoles and software for engineering technology.
The equipment was donated under Siemens' Automation Cooperates with Education (SCE) program. The technology is designed to jump-start or upgrade technical programs and curriculum with leading-edge automation technologies supplied by the company.
Nationwide, more than 60 universities, colleges, trade schools and high schools were nominated for the SCE Educational Development Award by Siemens distributors across the country.
Joining ODU as winners of the award are Alexandria Technical College, Alexandria, Va.; Penn College of Technology, Williamsport, Pa.; University of Nevada-Las Vegas; Kellogg Community College, Battle Creek, Mich.; Western Colorado Community College, Grand Junction, Colo.; and College of the Sequoias, Visalia, Calif.
"Education continues to be a priority at Siemens in the United States and across the globe, especially in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics," said Raj Batra, president of the Industry Automation Division at Siemens. "Through our partnerships with the winning schools, Siemens is able to support educational programs that are training the workforce of tomorrow."
The selected schools were able to choose from two technology packages of equipment from the company. In addition, Siemens will provide training on the new equipment for instructors from the seven winning schools.
ODU and the other schools will also become education partners with Siemens, meaning ODU will receive access to additional resources, support services and discounts on Siemens automation components and software.
Siemens Industry Inc. is the U.S. affiliate of Siemens' global industry sector business - the world's leading supplier of production, transportation and building technology solutions, with nearly 222,000 employees worldwide.
