Competing against seven other colleges and universities, Old Dominion University faculty and student teams took first place in the annual WorldQuest competition, held Nov. 16 at the Chesapeake Conference Center.

It was the seventh consecutive year that the Old Dominion faculty team won first place.

Hosted by the World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads, WorldQuest tests international knowledge in such categories as faces and places in the news, geography, current events and culture. The event was sponsored Booz Allen Hamilton and the city of Chesapeake.

This year's faculty team included Stephen Johnson, director, study abroad; Chris Drake, professor of Asian studies; Tim Kidd, instructor of geography ; Fran Hassencahl, assistant professor of communication and theatre arts; Maria Fornella-Oehninger, lecturer of political science and geography; Patrick Mbajekwe, assistant professor of history; Corliss Tacosa, adjunct assistant professor of political science ; and Bruce Seifert, professor of finance.

The student team included Alexander Palmer, Morgan Darr, Eugen Rubenstein, Danny Taylor, Raquel Fratta, Pam Majumdar and Chris Pearson.

The 2006 WorldQuest results are as follows:

2nd Place: College of William & Mary
3rd Place: Virginia Wesleyan College

College Faculty Division:
1st Place: Old Dominion University
2nd Place: Christopher Newport University
3rd Place: Tidewater Community College

High School Division:
1st Place: Frank W. Cox High School
2nd Place: Ocean Lakes High School
3rd Place: Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School

General Division:
1st Place: Cape Henry Collegiate Faculty
2nd Place: Graham's Follies
3rd Place: Norfolk Sister City Association

Corporate Challenge:
1st Place: Booz Allen Hamilton
2nd Place: The Virginian-Pilot
3rd Place: Willcox & Savage P.C.
