VICE ADM. BREWER TO DELIVER SPEECH AT NAVY ROTC COMMISSIONING CEREMONY
Vice Adm. David L. Brewer III, commander, Military Sealift Command, will be the guest speaker and commissioning officer at the 2005 Hampton Roads Naval ROTC Unit winter commissioning ceremony. The event will take place at Norfolk State University's L. Douglas Wilder Center at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17.
During the ceremony, 18 midshipmen and officer candidates from Old Dominion and Norfolk State universities will be commissioned as ensigns in the U.S. Navy.
In 2001, Brewer assumed command of Military Sealift Command (MSC), which operates 124 ships and numerous shore facilities, and employs more than 8,000 people worldwide. MSC's mission is to provide ocean transportation of equipment, fuel, supplies and ammunition to sustain U.S. forces around the globe during peacetime and in war.
Brewer was a member of the initial graduating class of the first Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps unit at a historically black university, Prairie View A&M University in Texas.
A highly decorated officer, Brewer's has been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (three awards), Meritorious Service Medal (two awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal.
