Adam Photo Featured on Science Web Page

A photograph taken by Old Dominion University mathematician John Adam is the Picture of the Day for Wednesday, Dec. 16, on the Earth Sciences Web page, http://epod.usra.edu. The photo can be found in the Web site's archives after Dec. 16.

Titled "Shimmer Tree," the photo shows the reflection of a bare hardwood tree on the ripples of a pond. Adam provides a mathematical explanation of the image in text under the photo.

The site also links to a Web page promoting Adam's book, "A Mathematical Nature Walk," published earlier this year by Princeton University Press, http://press.princeton.edu/titles/8864.html.

Adam is University professor and professor of mathematics at ODU.
