NORFOLK SOUTHERN CHAIRMAN TO SPEAK TODAY AT ECONOMICS CLUB

David Goode, chairman of the Norfolk Southern Corp., will be the guest speaker for the Old Dominion University Economics Club of Hampton Roads luncheon Thursday, Dec. 8.

Co-sponsored by Old Dominion's College of Business and Public Administration, the luncheon will begin at noon at the Norfolk Marriott Waterside Hotel in downtown Norfolk. The cost is $30 for non-members. Due to limited space, reservations are required and can be made by calling 683-4058.

Goode joined Norfolk Southern in 1982 after 17 years with Norfolk and Western Railway Co. Named president in 1991, he assumed the additional titles of chairman, and CEO and director a year later. A graduate of Duke University, Goode earned his law degree from Harvard University in 1965. He received a Doctor of Humane Letters honorary degree from ODU in 2003.

A member of numerous local and national philanthropic and business organizations, Goode serves on the boards of the Center for Energy and Economic Development and the Business Committee for the Arts, and is a member of the Business Roundtable and the Business Council.

The remaining 2005-06 luncheon schedule is as follows:

Jan. 18 - Annual Economic Outlook Conference: Mark Zandi, nationally known economist with Regional Financial Association and founder of Economy.com, will present the national forecast. ODU's forecast team of Vinod Agarwal, Mohammad Najand and Gil Yochum will present their regional forecast. Program starts at 10:45 a.m.

Feb. 8 - Gary M. Pfeiffer, senior vice president and chief financial officer of DuPont.

March 22 - Jeffrey Bader, director of the China Initiative and senior fellow at The Brookings Institute.

April 26 - William Starbuck, ITT Professor of Creative Management at New York University's Stern School of Business.
