ODU Celebrates MLK Legacy with 'Day of Service'
In honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Old Dominion University will present a talk by Rev. Dr. Kirk T. Houston, Sr., a freedom march and volunteer projects as part of its "MLK Day of Service: A Day ON, Not a Day Off" Monday, Jan. 18.
The event will begin at noon in Hampton Newport News Room in Webb Center with a talk by Houston, the founder and senior pastor of Norfolk's Gethsemane Community Fellowship Baptist Church.
Following the talk, students, faculty, staff and guests will participate in a candlelight visual/freedom march around the Old Dominion University campus, ending in the opportunity to participate in a variety of volunteer projects. As King once observed, "Life's most urgent question: What are you doing for others?"
