Old Dominion University will sponsor its first poetry contest for registered creative writing graduate and undergraduate students.

One graduate and undergraduate student will be award a $100 prize from the Poetry Society of Virginia and will receive a one-year membership to the Academy of American Poets.

Eligible graduate students must be registered in the MFA creative writing program. Undergraduate applicants must have a declared emphasis in creative writing or have taken at least one creative writing course in the previous or current year.

Applicants may submit up to three unpublished poems in English, with a total page count not to exceed six pages. Submissions must contain one poem per page, single-spaced and on one side of the paper. Entries must include a title page listing the poem(s) entered in the competition, the author's name, mailing address, telephone number and e-mail address.

All entries must include an official contest registration form, available in the MFA Creative Writing office at the University Village, or by e-mailing ligloria@odu.edu.

Entries may be mailed or delivered to the faculty mailbox of Luisa A. Igloria, PSV-ODU-AAP Poetry Prize Coordinator, English Department, Old Dominion University, Hampton Boulevard Norfolk, VA. 23529. All poetry entries are due by Monday, Jan. 15.
