Old Dominion University will name 20 residence hall buildings in honor of former board rectors and directors -- some of the most prominent business and community leaders in the region -- at "A Tribute to Our Rectors" at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

At the dinner event, individual buildings in the Powhatan Apartments will be named for 17 former rectors of Old Dominion's Board of Visitors and the first leaders of the Alumni Association, Research Foundation and Intercollegiate Foundation. Buildings in the University Quad Complex and the University Village Apartments will be officially named for surrounding cities and counties and other counties.

Powhatan Apartments buildings will be named after the following former rectors: Francis N. Crenshaw ('70-'76), Edgar S. Everhart ('76-'78), Dorothy M. Doumar ('78-'82), M. Lee Payne ('82-'84), Robert M. Stanton ('84-'88), Richard F. Barry III ('88-'90), George Dragas Jr. ('90-'91), James K. Hall ('91-'92), Hugo A. Owens Sr. ('92-'93), Arnold B. McKinnon ('93-'94), Arthur A. Diamonstein ('94-'96), Anne B. Shumadine ('96-'97), James F. Babcock ('97-'98), Edward L. Hamm Jr. ('98-'00), Walter D. Kelly Jr. ('00-'02), Frank Batten Jr. ('02-'04), James A. Hixon ('04-'06). Three Powhatan Apartments buildings will be named for the first three presidents of the Research Foundation, Intercollegiate Foundation and Alumni Association: James H. Culpeper, F.A. "Buddy" Davis and Donald G. Griffin.
