Earth System Modeling Expert to Speak at CCPO
Raghu Murtugudde, executive director of the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center at the University of Maryland, will discuss his work with Earth System Models as part of the CCPO Spring Seminar Series Monday, March 1.
The talk, "HABs, Pathogens, Swine Flu: Regional Earth System Prediction as a Decision-Making Tool," will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Room 3200 of the Innovation Research Park Building 1. The seminar is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served beginning at 3 p.m.
Murtugudde's recent research efforts have focused on improving Earth System Models through inclusion of processes at the regional scales. These models are used to provide projections and assessments of climate impacts on various components of the terrestrial and ocean systems.
The speaker's research interests extend from climate variability and change, to biological effects on ocean heating, to tuna population dynamics and to harmful algae blooms.
