Lady Monarchs win first-round game in WNIT
The Old Dominion University Lady Monarchs advanced to the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) with a home-court win over American University Wednesday night.
ODU will travel to face the winner of the Boston University vs. Providence College first-round game, scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 18. Following that game, the WNIT will announce the time and date for the Lady Monarchs' next game. Visit odusports.com for updates.
The front court scored 43 of ODU's 63 total points in last night's opening-round contest, leading the Lady Monarchs (19-13) past the Eagles (22-10), 63-55. ODU scored 44 points in the paint and outrebounded the Eagles by 10. Sophomore Tia Lewis led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Junior guard Jasmine Parker added 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting, adding five rebounds and three assists.
Patriot League Player of the Year Michelle Kirk led American with a game-high 21 points.
