A cookie decorating contest for kids and holiday music are among the highlights of Old Dominion University's fifth annual "Illumination: A Holiday Tradition," Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Free and open to the community, the festival will begin at 4:45 p.m. with a children's cookie decorating contest in the North Mall of Webb University Center with music by the strolling Doorway Singers. Prizes include bookstore gift certificates and family packs of four tickets to the Monarch or Lady Monarchs basketball game.

Originally scheduled for Kaufman Mall but moved due to inclement weather, the traditional candle lighting and wreath illumination ceremony will held at 5:15 p.m. in the North Mall of Webb University Center. The ceremony will feature members of the Diehn Chorale, international students and area civic league representatives.

Following the ceremony, hot cider, hot chocolate, caramel popcorn and cookies will be served.

The event is also a donation drive for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and participants are asked to bring canned goods to donate.
