Walter Ewell is Landmark Executive-in-Residence Speaker at ODU March 30

Walter Ewell, founder of FranchiseRepublic, a franchise development company, will be the guest lecturer for the Landmark Executive-in-Residence speaker series at Old Dominion University on Tuesday, March 30.

The series is sponsored by Landmark Communications and ODU's College of Business and Public Administration. Ewell's talk will begin at 12:30 p.m. in 1005 Constant Hall. The program is free and open to university students, faculty and staff and to the public as space permits.

Ewell has 30 years of experience as a corporate and franchise development specialist, having helped build five of the top 50 worldwide franchise companies. He began his career developing franchise plans for Econo Lodges of America and consulting in hotel franchises, including Super 8, Radisson, Omni and others. He developed the franchise plan that put the storefronts of the income tax preparation firm Jackson Hewitt in nearly every city across the country. Since then he has worked for Ben Franklin - the oldest active franchise business in the United States - Liberty Tax and Zero's Subs. From August 2000 through May 2005, Ewell was president of Geeks On Call, which has been ranked among the top 30 fastest-growing franchises in the world.

Ewell is a certified franchise executive through the International Franchise Association and has a bachelor's degree in finance from ODU.

The Landmark Executive-in-Residence speaker series is designed to enrich students' entrepreneurial spirit, their awareness of the success that can be built on their academic experience and their understanding of the importance of leading with integrity.

The series is dedicated to bringing accomplished business leaders, authors and internationally known speakers to campus to share their history and vision, giving students the opportunity to learn firsthand the strategies and experiences that forge great ethical global leaders.

Established in 2001, the series is funded by an endowment from a group of former Landmark Communications executives in honor of Frank Batten Sr., who was Landmark's founder and the first rector of the ODU Board of Visitors.
