ODU to Host Workshop on Risk Management May 13
The Emergent Risk Initiative (ERI) at Old Dominion University will host a workshop on Thursday, May 13, on risk management in a variety of different areas.
The workshop, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in 1005 Constant Hall, will feature experts from inside and outside the university discussing Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and other risk management issues from both academic and practical perspectives.
Adrian Gheorghe, professor and Batten Endowed Chair of system of systems engineering at ODU's Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology, will provide an academic perspective on risk management and vulnerability.
Adolf Dorig, founder and managing partner of Doerig + Partner Ltd., will speak on international strategic risk management.
Bailey Jordan, partner in the Southeast Region Business Advisory Services Practice, will provide a practical perspective to ERM.
The workshop will also include modeling, simulation and visualization (MS&V) applications of risk management, such as for flood, emerging disease threat and bioterrorism risk assessments.
Ariel Pinto, assistant professor of engineering management and systems engineering, will provide an overview of ODU MS&V applications, and flood risk assessment.
Holly Gaff, assistant professor of community and environmental health in ODU's College of Health Sciences, will speak on emerging disease threat assessment.
Barry Ezell, research assistant professor at ODU's Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center, will speak on bioterrorism risk assessment.
The workshop will begin with refreshments at 8:30 a.m., and officially start at 9 a.m. with a welcome by Nancy Bagranoff, dean of ODU's College of Business and Public Administration.
