MADRIGAL BANQUET WILL CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS WITH MUSIC OF JAMESTOWN
The 2006 edition of the Old Dominion University Madrigal Banquet will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown Settlement with a festive meal and music at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2.
The always popular event, sponsored by the music department, will feature a performance by the ODU Madrigal Singers and Collegium Musicum under the direction of Lee Teply.
The banquet, in the atrium of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center, will include popular English madrigals and dance music from the early 17th century, as well as some of the music performed in the Colonies up to the time of the Revolutionary War. Period costumes and decorations will also evoke the birth of the new nation.
Tickets, which must be purchased by Nov. 30, are $30 for general admission; $25 for faculty and non-ODU students; and $15 for ODU students. They are available at the Arts and Letters Box Office in the lobby of the University Theatre, or by calling 683-5305. Box office hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
