EDUCATION PROFESSOR, PROGRAM NOTED IN EDUCATION WEEK

A recent study conducted by William Owings, professor and graduate program director for educational leadership at Old Dominion, that shows the effectiveness of the national Troops to Teachers program was cited in Education Week.

"Troops-to-Teachers Recruits Pass Muster With Principals, Study Finds," appeared in the November 9 issue and quotes Owings' research, which shows nine out of 10 principals surveyed say the former troops are very effective, particularly in areas of greatest need.

Old Dominion University is the Virginia coordinator for Troops to Teachers, which trains retiring military personnel to teach in elementary and high schools.
