President Broderick to Deliver State of the University Address Aug. 24
Old Dominion University President John R. Broderick will deliver the annual State of the University address at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
The format is different for this year's State of the University address, the annual event which outlines the vision for ODU for the upcoming year. The speech will be made during a breakfast gathering of local dignitaries, community leaders and faculty and staff.
A crowd of more than 1,000 is expected to attend. The doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for registration, with breakfast starting promptly at 8 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to be in their seats at that time because of the large attendance. Parking will be available in the 43rd Street garage.
Last April, the ODU Board of Visitors unanimously extended Broderick's contract as ODU's eighth president for an additional three years, to May 2014, citing his exceptional leadership, management and communication.
The board praised Broderick's handling of significant state budget cuts over the past two years, which have come at a time when the university has had the largest enrollments in its history, growing retention rates, a flourishing residential campus and an unparalleled demand for classes and services.
