Darden College's Jack Robinson to Lead Sept. 21 Segment of 'Provost's Conversations on Teaching and Learning'
The second Old Dominion University Provost's Conversations on Teaching and Learning of the fall semester will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, featuring Jack Robinson, associate professor of educational foundations and leadership in the Darden College of Education.
Robinson's talk, "Helping Students Learn: Students as Facilitators of Learning," will be held in room 1202 of the E.V. Williams Engineering and Computational Sciences Building. It is open to all ODU faculty members, but registration is strongly encouraged.
Robinson has taught courses in assessment, learning and educational research at ODU for more than 35 years. Over the past 15 years, he has worked extensively with public schools on ways to use information and feedback during the learning process. He has been awarded several grants through the ODU Research Foundation and from the Virginia State Council of Higher Education.
In his conversation, Robinson will answer the question: How can students learn from each other through discussion and peer assessment and feedback?
Provost Carol Simpson hosts the Conversations on Teaching and Learning to offer an opportunity for faculty members to present their ideas about the teaching and learning process. Last year, nine award-winning faculty members led discussions about the subject, sharing their perspectives and engendering thought-provoking discussions.
Fourteen discussions are scheduled for this year. They will occur during Tuesday activity hours.
This series began this semester on Sept. 7, as Scott Sechrist of the College of Health Sciences led a discussion about the importance of the first day of class.
