Biotech Entrepreneur Is Landmark Executive-in-Residence Speaker at ODU Sept. 30
Alain Cappeluti, biotechnology entrepreneur, consultant and investor, will be the guest lecturer for the Landmark Executive-in-Residence Speaker Series at Old Dominion University on Thursday, Sept. 30.
The series is sponsored by Landmark Communications and ODU's College of Business and Public Administration. Cappeluti's talk will begin at 12:30 p.m. in 1005 Constant Hall. The program is free and open to university students, faculty and staff, and to the public as space permits.
Cappeluti, who received a bachelor's degree in accounting from ODU, has more than 30 years' experience in finance and accounting for both public and private companies. He was a founding employee of the pharmaceutical firm Human Genome Sciences (HGS) and played an integral role as CFO in the creation of the HGS spinoff CoGenesys, a biotechnology firm.
He is currently a consultant and investor in several life science companies and startups, including a cancer diagnostic company.
The Landmark Executive-in-Residence series is designed to enrich students' entrepreneurial spirit, their awareness of the success that can be built on academic experience and their understanding of the importance of leading with integrity.
The series is dedicated to bringing accomplished business leaders, authors and internationally known speakers to campus to share their history and vision, giving students the opportunity to learn firsthand the strategies and experiences that forge great ethical global leaders.
Established in 2001, the series is funded by an endowment from a group of former Landmark Communications executives in honor of Frank Batten Sr., Landmark's founder and the first rector of the ODU Board of Visitors.
