ODU Panel to Discuss Midterm Congressional Elections Oct. 28
Old Dominion University will host a panel discussion on the 2010 congressional elections at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Batten Arts and Letters Building auditorium. The discussion, which is sponsored by the Department of Political Science and Geography and the Graduate Program in International Studies, is free and open to the public.
The program will feature Simon Serfaty and Glen Sussman, professors of political science and international studies, and Kimberly Karnes and Jesse Richman, assistant professors of political science. G. William Whitehurst, Kaufman Lecturer in Public Affairs, will moderate the discussion.
According to Richman, the panelists will examine the election context and likely outcomes. "The 2010 midterm elections for Congress will shape the policy trajectory of American politics over the next two years, and may set the tone for the 2012 presidential election," he said. "We will discuss how foreign policy, President Obama, the Tea Party movement, health care reform and the economy have helped set the stage for the 2012 election."
