ODU Celebrates Homecoming Today with Parade, Football Game and Formal Ball
Old Dominion University's annual homecoming celebration will be marked today with a colorful parade, an exciting football game and a glittering formal ball.
The Homecoming 2010 Parade begins at 10 a.m. and will feature floats made by student organizations and local businesses, along with the Monarch Marching Band and the ODU Army and Naval ROTC units. The parade starts on 49th Street and goes to Hampton Blvd., to Monarch Way, to 43rd Street. Women's basketball legend and ODU alumna, Nancy Lieberman will be grand marshal.
Pregame tailgate parties begin at 11:30 a.m. for the football game against Georgia State, with alumni and student tents opening up on Kaufman Mall. At noon, the men's basketball Blue and White game will be held at the Constant Center. It is free of charge.
Kickoff for the Homecoming 2010 Football Game, against future CAA rival Georgia State, is at 3:30 p.m. The game is a "Blue Out," with fans asked to wear blue in keeping with the Homecoming 2010 theme. At halftime, the Homecoming king and queen, and prince and princess, will be announced.
At 9 p.m. on Saturday is the students' 4th Annual F.O.R.E.I.G.N.E.R.S Homecoming Ball in the North Cafeteria of Webb Center. The event is for ODU students only.
