VETERANS DAY OBSERVATION TODAY ON KAUFMAN MALL
Old Dominion University will hold a Veterans Day observance from 12:30 to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, on Kaufman Mall.
Associate professor of music Nancy Klein will perform the national anthem, and keynote remarks will be given by president Roseann Runte and former U.S. Rep. Owen Pickett. The service will include the laying of a wreath on Old Dominion's Alumni War Memorial plaque.
Army and Navy ROTC students will participate in "Old Glory," a ritual where each cadet and midshipman passes a folded flag to the next. The flag will be presented to Carl Schulz, an assistant professor of mathematics and statistics who joined ODU in 1964. A Michigan native, Schultz was a sergeant first class in the Michigan National Guard's 46th Infantry Division, which he joined in 1948 as a high school junior.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the north mall of Webb University Center.
